ExScite’ment @ APM

Israeli volume measurement innovator APM (APM Automation Solutions Ltd.) -home to several Scitex veterans

APM’s patented level and volume measurement technology is being applied to a broad spectrum of industries – food and beverages, power, plastics, chemicals, aggregates and cement, metals – where effective production management, process and inventory control are important bottom-line considerations. Scitex veterans
hold key management positions with the company, including Uzi Ish-Hurwitz who has been the firm’s active Chairman from the very beginning, CFO Yossi Rahima and Executive Sales Director EMEA Mordi Perl.
Founded in 2005 by Mordi’s son, APM CEO Ofir Perl and CTO Yossi Zlotnick, the company introduced its flagship product, the 3DLevelScanner?, in 2007. This milestone represented a new approach to accurately measuring the
volume of bulk solid materials stored inside silos, open bins and large warehouses while providing 3D mapping of the surface of the contents. APM’s offerings include inventory-savings solutions for a range of industrial applications across multiple sites that meet the needs of corporate as well production managers. APM products are sold and supported by a network of distributors in Europe, the United States, Asia Pacific and elsewhere.

Other connections to Scitex include Board member Eli Davidai, APM’s Regional Sales Manager Adi Goldman (son of Scitex’s Yaron Goldman), and consultants Dan Zetland (marcom services), Dana Kontes (human resources) and Shelagh
Hammer
(marketing). APM’s VP Business Development Eyal Cohen worked part-time at Scitex while he was a student, and Scitex vet Israel Amir managed the mechanical design team at ARAN for the first model of the 3DLevelScanner.

APM Chairman of the board is our own ExScite- Uzi Ish-Hurwitz.

The Tel Aviv based APM Solutions  http://apm-solutions.com/ is a manufacturer and expert in level and volume measurement instrumentation. Its flagship product, the 3DLevelScanner, represents a new family of devices that takes the guesswork out of measuring the level, volume and mass of materials stored inside a silo or open bin.
The 3DLevel Scanner employs an array of three antennas to transmit low frequency pulses and to receive echoes of the pulses from the contents of the silo, bin or other container. Using three antennas the unit measures not only the time/distance of each echo but also its direction. The device’s Digital Signal Processor samples and analyzes the received signals to provide very accurate measurements of the level, volume and mass of the stored contents and generates a 3D representation of actual allocation of product within the container for display on remote computer screens

Deep Breeze– an Israeli company’s innovative medical device could radically change that scenario. Once approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the trademarked Breeze@home, will allow COPD and other chronic lung disease patients to stay out of the hospital while receiving continuous remote monitoring by their healthcare provider from home.

“This will not only make life more bearable for them, but will also save the healthcare system a lot of money,” points out the ExScite Dr. Michael Nagler, CEO of Deep Breeze, a medical device company headquartered in Or-Akiva, Israel, with offices in the United States.  “We created an immensely simple interface so that the patient can activate transmission by touching just one button,” he explains. “The interface works with voice, text and video so the physician at a remote location can receive measurements and also video conference with the patient to get the full picture.”

Our friend Guy Alon is in the midst of an heroic, prolonged battle with cancer. He is in search of stem cell donors. From his blog:

“As we speak, I write to you from the hospital in Boston, where I undergo the first roud of 5 days strong 24 h/day chemo to bring the disease under control and allow the stem cell transplant. It will take 2 or more cycles like this: 1 week of chemo, 3 weeks off and so forth. So far so good. I manage to eat and not lose weight which is the key.
In the pictures you can see me hanging on the door a nice collage that Inbal made for me and in another working while getting the chemo. Last night my good friends came here for our weekly Bridge game.”

Shaposhnik- Director General

Haim_Shani2010In Haim Shani, ExScite, the Finance Ministry has a director-general who’s a passionate Zionist, a high-tech guru and who doesn’t need a job

Haartez,(July 7, 2010) the Israeli newspaper has published this nice article about the ExScite Haim (Shaposhnik) Shani .

After leaving Scitex, Haim accepted the CEO position at Nice in Raanana.
In his nine years at the helm, he transformed NICE from a small company in crisis to a market leader. He began with revenues of $100 million a year, a market capitalization of $100 million and 700 employees at the start of the decade. NICE today is a giant, generating sales of $600 million a year. Its market cap is $2 billion and it has 2,700 employees. He left Nice to take a government job.

Haaretz article summarizes:

“Haim has been nine months on the job of Director General, Israeli Finance Ministry, so it’s early days. But judging by the subjects he’s chosen to tackle, the discussions he holds, the legislative proposals he’s involved in and the moves he’s leading, he looks like he’ll be one of those government officials who leaves his mark. Perhaps his success will lead more good people to move from business to public service, for the greater good of all.
Among other important subjects at the treasury, Haim sees signs that Israeli high-tech is eroding and says that with new priorities, tax breaks, some financial assistance and legislative amendments, he can help stop the erosion and make Israeli high-tech more competitive against other countries coming to the fore”.
